To use a divot tool on a golf course, first locate a ball mark left by your golf ball on the green. Place the prongs of the divot tool into the ground, just outside of the mark, at about a 45-degree angle. Push the prongs in towards the center of the mark and lift the grass cleanly, without pulling or tearing it. Gently tamp down the grass roots with the flat side of the divot tool to ensure they make contact with the soil beneath. Repeat this process for any other ball marks you encounter during your round. This helps maintain the integrity of the putting surface and ensures a smoother roll for all golfers.
